Thumbs up Punctured Rear - Repair / Replace or Renew both

So in 17 years of driving I'd not had a puncture whilst on the move until Saturday. Luckly I was only 10 miles from home after a 60 mile journey in the morning.

I managed to drive over a key of all things that went straight into the tyre as though it was in a lock... The hole will be half a centimetre long I guess by a mill wide maybe. It went in 1/4 of the way across from the inside.

The question is can these be repaired?
I know most will say you should not repair tyres especially on cars of above average performance...

The tyre is less than 18 months old and as I work from home probably done about 5-6k with about 3-4mm. I reckon the other tyre will last me through the winter and beyond which is damn annoying.

So is it worth looking for a used 3-4mm SO2 (225/50/16) - Anyone got one they dont want or will part with for some beer money?

Or should I just stop whinging and just go and buy 2 new rears and keep this one for when I get another puncture...

Rich

I'm afraid I would bite the bullet and get two new rears too.

If you regularly drive over speed limits then get the two changed, otherwise I'd suggest getting it repaired if it's possible - I've had no issues with repaired tyres before (although I've not needed to have any repairs on the S)

i've got a 3 rears s02 with legal tread on them. Two of them are already allocated but the 3rd us available and useless to me know as i've got an 06 with 17" wheels on. you can have the tyre FOC. The only problem is that you're in bournemouth and the tyre is in Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

i think there's about 2.5-3.5 mm tread on it.

If you can find a way to collect it or are willing to pay shipping, it's yours.

Knowing that Ben has done a dozen or so laps of the Nurburgring with a repaired tyre and that many of the Westfield drivers are happy to race with repaired tyres, I would have no concerns, providing the tyre repair people have said it's OK and that they garage has a good reputation.

However, 3 - 4 mm of tread on a performance car at the start of winter - I would definitely get them changed.
