Default pushers in

set the scene

you have just come off a m'way where there's a r'about at the top. Most of the traffic is turning right, and there is only one right turn lane (of two). The r'about has traffic lights on it.

There's a sizeable queue. The traffic lights are on red. There is no traffic in the LH lane

Peter Pushy in his Peugeot comes up the left hand lane and signals right

You are at the top of the queue turning right

In these situations do you let Peter pushy in? Or do you make him wait behind you?

usually depends if i think he's made a mistake and got into the wrong lane by mistake and only realised when he got close enough to see the signs and then had to indicate to get into the right lane or if he's just a chancer who is jumping the queue on purpose. it doesn't take much effort to let him in and you can take some satisfaction in knowing your a kind courteous driver.

with this

There are two junctions where I see pushers in all the time.

M6/A556 junction

A56 Stretford/Sale (funny gyratory bit just before the M60 bridge heading south).

It really really winds me up

Thing is most of the time they don't slot in so end up slowing everyone down in the correct lane

But both of these junctions could be designed better to make use of both lanes

If it's a genuine "I got the wrong lane cos I don't know the roads here" look on his / her face I let them in as well make mistakes. However if they are a cocky pushy tw@t then they can wait

I usually just ignore them if they are being aggressive but if they look lost and apologetic - I let them in.

If people have the manners to ask, then I'll let them go. If they do the eyes ahead at all costs thing and just ignore me then I'd rather run them off the road than give in.
