Default A question about alarms..

My dad's car was broken into last night and this has raised concerns over the reliabilty of my s2000.

My car has an alarm (Cobra) and if i tapped the hood quite hard it'll trigger the alarm off. So if some git with prying hands decided to break into my car as soon as he tries something it would trigger the alarm right?

Is there anyway the car can be broken into without setting off the alarm? Such as popping the boot?

Obviously if you forget to arm the alarm then you're basically offering them your car.

does it have internal motion sensors that are fitted and working correctly?
i dare say there are ways to get in, but not being that type of person i dont know how.

a simple screwdriver to leaver the window out, and a long rod with a hook would get the doors physically open, but unknown how you'd get past the alarm system.

If a car theif wanted your car an alarm really wouldnt bother them too much im afraid. Best thing to do is to not leave anything on show.....

A ruler, fishing line, coathanger - take your pick. An 11 year old can break into a car with no damage if they want. I am sure alarms give comfort to many but for me they are largely a waste of time. It's immobilisers that count.

Triggering depends on whether you have ultrasonic or microwave etc. Convertibles can go off in wind or 'tapping' due to the pressure change on the fabric roof creating a vacuum effect on the sensor, there doesn't need to be anything 'passing' it.

If you are really bothered does your Cobra have a separate tilt sensor? Any organised thefts will usually involve a flatbed truck, or sadly more likely your keys.

Not sure bout the tilt bit, but yeah the cobra does have microwave. If they tried to get into the car without diasraming the alarm with the fob, then no matter how easy they can get into the car, the alarm will still be triggered.

After the incident last night my dad's stuck a wheel lock on his car now..Its not a pleasent feeling knowing people in the neighbourhood could be eyeing up their next target.
