Question regarding insurance

Having just bought simmo's excellent EU import S2000 on Sunday I have found myself in a curious position regarding insurance. I'm currently insured with Tesco (Directline group I believe) and when I rang them to insure the new car the only listing they had with "import" in it was a "S2000 Type V"...
After another phonecall later in the day wherein I expressed concern about the car being insured as the wrong type the woman basically just said "I'll take the import bit off"... don't think that solved my problem really. I had a feeling that the import S2000 they have on their records is actually a Japanese import, not a EU (full UK spec) import.
The quandary I have is that should I insure the car as a "S2000 Type-V (Import)" or vanilla S2000 (no import). Either choice seems like a risk in terms of potential insurance voiding in the case of an accident (God forbid).
Any help people can provide, especially if insured with Directline/Tesco et al would be great. Am I worrying over nothing?

Be wary about insuring it as a GT. When I first looked at getting an S I considered a GT and was suprised when the insurance quote came back lower than the standard model. I was told that the insurance company can void your cover if your car is broken into if you haven't got the hard top on, as the car is less secure and more prone to vandalism. I wasn't sure they were telling the truth but in the end I got a standard model anyway.

Yeah, its a bit of a minefield really. I had no idea the quotes would actually be different for a GT model, given the top is removeable. Surely they don't actually expect GT-owners to have the hardtop on all year round?
Like you say, since the car isn't registered as a GT - I guess if the worse came to the worst they'd simply say the car isn't as described and void the policy, regardless of whether the hardtop happened to be fitted at the time.
At least (I guess) the gulf between GT and non-GT isn't so huge with Tesco, but its still a marked difference.

Does the V5 actually record the GT model as an S2000 GT? I'd be surprised if it did, since the whole GT thing is just a Honda marketing wheeze, rather than being classified as a different car.
(Still waiting for my new V5, so I can't check mine to see. Although I did have a new V5C, in a strange new format, come back from DVLA today for the car I just p/x-ed against the 04

Sounds like a typical bimbo moment on the part of the insurer.
if its a GT its a GT a main dealer model etc etc .
my insurance went down when I changed to a GT .
