Question Regarding my Replacement Engine
Well, as most of you knwo by now, I have a replacement engine in my S.
The Engine came from a cat D writeoff with 22k on the clock...
My old engine had just hit 50k..
So 3 questions.
1) How can i get the mileage of the " new " engine verified, so I can show when the engine was changed, and keep track of the engine mileage.
2) The numbers on your dash, are they required to show the mileage of the engine, or the mileage of the chassis, now that the 2 are different.
3) What is expected to be shown when selling a car with a replacement engine, anythimg I should get done before i start rackign up the miles ( Ive already informed insurance comapny
)
Thanks in advance.

What happened to the old engine? Lack of oil?
You have to find previous owners and they can then tell you the garages where it was serviced and you can get copies of the receipts. Maybe their insurance company to get the mileage?
I would keep the mileage on the body of the car, not the engine...You can prove the mileage of your car by your receipts, if you start messing around with clocking and stuff, its makes it look...well...dodgy!
When you come to sell, all your receipts, receipts that the engine was swapped and serviced at the same time. And preferably some service history of the previous engine, however in most cases most people don't have this.
Welcome back to the fold!

Inform DVLA that you have replaced the engine and give them the new number. If you get stopped by plod or it is stolen then it needs to match your car. You can't change the clock as this it to record the milage of the Engine and Chassis.

I think a replacement engine would probably put a lot of potential buyers off. Might be better to keep quiet about it, rather than try to prove the engine mileage is lower.
And yes, the odometer is for the car, not the engine.
I should be getting a 19K 05 engine to replace my 95K 99 one. But I won't be kidding myself that it'll somehow make the car worth more.

You thought about ECU issues, Dave? Or is it a JDM engine?

So you will be able to to be sure if the milleage of the car is true. The car's clock can be hijacked very easy. I bought an engine from a UK breaker which was supposed to have 7100 miles on the clock, with the picture of the clock too showing this mileage and it turned out to be much more.
I didnt expect to make money of putting the new engine in, And i dotn expect it to raise te value of the car, I dont really have any intention on selling it, Just sort of covering my bases.
If i was buying a car, i would want to know if it had an engine replacement, but i can see why it might put off some people.

It's a UK engine, but I don't think that's a problem. Please tell me if you know otherwise.
