Default Quick question

Just wondering why the recommended non S02 rear tyre profile is 45 as opposed to the stock 50? Will this not exaggerate the already massive wheel arch gap on stock suspension? Would it be detrimental to just go with the 245/50?

Cheers

Nope. If you're talking profile, the OEM SO2s are 55 front and 50 rear. As for width, the OEM rear is a 225 but, if fitting non SO2s, a 245 should be fitted. (Assumes we're only talking pre MY04s with 16" wheels)

Probably because the reduction in the profile matches the increase in the width. Just remember the profile is a percentage of the width so 45 of 245 is probably the same as 50 of a 225. I couldn't be bothered to do the maths to check.

110 vs. 112 (45 vs. 50)

If you kept the same profile and increased width it would equal 122.5

YES!

To preserve rolling radius (i.e. speedo accuracy, gearing, etc...), then as the width of tyre increases, the 'profile' of tyre needs to decrease.

245/45/16 means:-

245mm wide tyre
sidewall is 45% of tyre width
16" wheel
