Default quick tyre question

Hi all, the rear tyres on my car are past their best but the fronts still have a few thousand miles left.

I'm curently running bridgestone RE050A's all round and have found these

Bridgestone RE050

here

http://www.kwik-fit.com/tyre-search.asp ( yep I know I'll probably get cheaper when I start to phone around )

question is whats the difrence between the A and the non A tyre if any.

The A's will probably have a different speed rating, Have a look on www.camskill.co.uk they usually have very competitive pricing

A stands for Asymmetric. Presumably you are still running 16".

The Kwik fit search brings up a run flat tyre (225/50/16/W) which will be the main difference.

www.event-tyres.co.uk will come to you (provided you are in their catchment area) and will charge roughly £80 fitted for the fronts, and £100 fitted for the rears.

You have a 2000 plate, that means the stock were 16".
Are you still on 16" or on 17"?

Hmmm a bit of ringing around and my local specilist headly tyres are the cheapest.

£200 fitted for 2.

mitcheldever tyres were £2 more and kwik fit about £40 more.

headly have them in stock as well

next question is there a cheaper brand or even specific tyre anyone would recomend or am I better sticking with the bridgestones as the car is a summer toy.

( I got it off the drive today and after slithering up the road very slowly decided to cary on using my fwd van with its new chunky van tyres and wait untill the snow has gone, it is amazing what a set of snow or all season tyres will do but as I dont need to drive the S in this weather I'll stick to my van and spend the money on fast road summer tyres )

edit:

the A is aparently a slightly difrent tread pattern but as I'm changing the rear pair I dont think that will make a diference.

I've happily used the A's for a few years now and they are absolutely fine and offer good value.

You can save a bit by switching to Falken 452s or Toyo T1-Rs but it's not a huge amount in the grand scheme of things.
