Default quick tyre question

looking at new tyres for my s, whats the difference between a 245/40/17 91w and the same tyre, load and rating in a mercedes fitment? Why is a merc fitment tyre different, do mercs have different construction wheels as standard?

From looking at other threads some of the diffreences relate to tyre wall flex and the fact that the S has a 50/50 weight distribution also suspension stiffness plays a part. The S is quite picky about what tyres work and what ones don't, I got my S with dunlops on and it scared the willies out of me especialy in the wet, changed to the recomended bridstones and the drive was superb.

I'm sure you've looked at-

and like me came away shell schocked, theres a lot of great input there, all I can honestly say is if it's recomended by the people who designed the car it must be good.

spoke to tyre guy they claim a Merc fitment tyre is supposedly designed for a mercedes ride and handling characteristics, but he thinks its a load of balls and a reason to charge about £5 more per tyre! Basically a marketing ploy
