Default Rad panel

Bored at work so went surfing. Found the German S2K club. They have some club gear listed among which I found this http://www.s2k.de/forum/thread.php?threadid=17553
Seems reasonable for

Very interesting - there was some suggestion (unconfirmed) that the early prototypes had something akin to that.

Not yet TUeV-approved, but that's not a problem really.

Like all of these it blocks the air vents in the airguide that have been deigned to take the heat away from the top of the engine bay.

They look nice though

I was just thinking that. If anything that panel will direct cold air directly into the airbox, therefore reducing the heat soak effect.

I ran the following setup, eh voila no skippy the bush kangaroo. Having said that though I was also running a Hondata inlet manifold gasket, which would have reduced heatsoak from the head.

Now I am confused I would have thought that it would direct cold air from in front of the rad into the airbox.
Simple explaination for an idiot needed please.

Ok I'll dive in - and prepare to be flamed for my bravado.

I ran variants of these on two different S2ks in '03 and '05 - both suffered from Skippy in increased degrees when in traffic - primarily due to the lack of airflow taking the hot air from the Rad matrix up and away from the inlet. The panel effectively traps a 'head' of hot air at the top of the Rad - exactly where the inlet was sitting. So a bigger gobful of hot air than the standard setup.

Upside - Cosmetically It looks tidy, but is useless unless you can get a better cool air flow at low/crawl speed.

On balance the snorkel was the best add-on, no skippy in traffic - better pick up pre VTEC.

I went back to a stock airbox with the snorkel.

Just my expereince - not everyones.....

The Rad Panel covers over the OEM air guide. The airguide is vented at both sides and the bonnet is indented to allow the air to flow into the the top of the engine bay.

If you block this off then there will be no airflow at the top of the engine bay where things can get very hot.

They look nice though
