For the first time since I bought my car 3-4 weeks ago it rained, so I went out in it.

The good news for me is that the roof doesn't leak and neither do the rubbers... frankly I'm amazed.
I guess the two silcon treatments did work.

On the downside the new strikers haven't fixed the blowing noise.
Before I start making the handles adjustable I'm wondering if anyone has tried this....

I'm assuming the wind is because the rubber on the top of the windscreen is getting tired.
On the leading edge of the roof os a metal strip held on with half a dozen screws. I'm thinking of removing it and adding 1-2mm of rubber strip under it so it presses firmer against the rubber seal on the top of the window.

What do you think?
Good idea? bad idea?

A brief and unscientific test makes me thing the wind noise is coming from the middle of the roof rather than the edges, so the bits where thers is no strip shouldn't be effected or affected.

 

Interesting idea. Don't know of anyone that has tried it, but if it works I might give it a go. Mine is a bit blowy too.

 

Have you left it parked up in the rain yet?

Mine tends to leak when I do this, never when the car has been moving.

If it is the rubber strip, just get a decent used one from a breakers rather than faffing around with Heath Robinson contraptions. That's what I'd do anyway

 

Left all day parked in the rain and then a short drive home in the rain.
Quitely pleased and hoping I don;t find a hidden pookl of water in the boot or the passenger footwell.

Hmm, I might try a breakers for the rubber strip.. I'm not sure this is the cause - but I can't think of what else it could be?

 

Can you pull the roof down from the handle once it is latched down?
Try it on the move does it reduce the noise?
Does the roof look like it is level with the metal of the screen surround?
Not sure how easy it is to replace that seal.

Yep, If I just pull the handle with the slightest of force the noise stops completely.

When the roof is down it looks perfect.
It's only at 50+ I get wind noise - although that went up tp 70 after silicon but it's back to 50 now.

So, I'm pretty sure it's the rubber...
My curent plan, as just suggested by my wonderful girlfriend, is to stick some door sealant tape on the outisde of the metal strip and see if it makes a difference, very easy to remove if I just attach it with a few mm of the backing tape removed.

 

You need to tighten up the front latches that's all.
Try some tape around the hooks and see what that does?

 

I've already got some plastic tubing round it which made it better but when I added tape it made it thicket it made no difference.

This makes me thing the ends make contact fine but there's a gap towards the middle.

I shall experiment with stuff and let you know.
