Default Rattle

I regularly get this dull rattle/clunking from underneath the car (sounds like it's coming from beneath the stereo) after hard driving. Never notice it unless I've been out thrashing it. It sounds like the exhaust has come off one of its fixings. The dealer has looked underneath and has checked everything. It's only noticeable on poor road surfaces when the car is being jolted about (i.e. most Sheffield roads!). It happened again on Saturday night after an hour racing around the Peak District. Becoming a little worrying.

Anyone else experience this?

Dean

Could it be the common culprits: seat or spare tyre ? Otherwise, possibly a heat shield.

Got the same on mine and it's in at the dealers at the moment for this and a few other things. I'll let you know if they find the cause.

Don't forget the passenger seat buckle!
Amazing how ventriloquistic it can be! (is that a word?)

My guess is that it's something affected by heat - only happen when the car is very hot, so could be a heat shield.

Chris, let me know what your dealer says. My dealer implied that I was my imagination!

I've checked the buckle and seat, and it's too far forward for it to be the spare tyre.

Thanks guys

Happens to me too.

After thrashing, when car is real hot.

Buzzing rattle - sounds like its coming from the gear stick, especially on decelerating when the engine is quieter.

I always assumed this was normal for the S as I have heard of it before.

Another conspiracy theory, dealer couldn't hear it. However, I must admit, I couldn't either when I went on the test drive with the engineer. It seems to be one of those annoying little noises that disappears when you look for it

Me too!

It sounds definitely sounds like an exhaust related problem but I've had it up on ramps and nothing seems to be loose.

I'd definitely be interested to hear if anyone finds out what it is...

Just out of interest, is this happening only with the older cars or new ones too?

Cheers
Simon (a fellow Sheffielder).
