what you want is the engine to run at normal temp and for the air going into the engine to be as cold and dense as possible

Anyone fitted an intercooler? Are intercoolers only relevant to FI engines?

Intercoolers are for FI engines.

I suppose you could fit an intercooler between the airfilter (relocated) and the throttle body, but the gains would not be worth the work and price involved TBH.

Intercooler are used to cool the very hot air exiting a turbo or supercharger. The hot air is cooled to make it less dense and increase the flow of air into the engine.

Cooling intake air sounds like a good idea but im sure it would be more hasle then it worth. The moderate improvement in engine responce would detracted by the extra weight.

My suggestion would be to apply heat reflective tape to the intake pipe to reduce heat soak.

I cant see why you need any cooling mods if your not running a hot engine. I cant see that the throttle body would generate enough heat or increase heat to justify cooling mods.

Seems like those mods were part of a bigger plan or just choosen randomly without carefull thought

replace the thermostat. your car will then run at design water temperature.

You can't cool ambient air below ambient when you only have ambient air to cool with

I too cannot see why people fit these cooling mods to a car that doesnt overheat, infact I don't even see how a stat that maintians 82

Thanks Jim.

So re-fitting the thermostat is a good idea then. I've fitted thermostats on "old cars" in the past, but no nowt about the S. Is it something I can do myself very easily, or is it something that involves big coolant change and bruised knuckles and is best sent to Honda?

Presuming I'm looking at re-fitting the thermostat, what then about the rad switch? What does it actually do and is there a pro or con to keeping the Spoon one in or re-fitting the OEM?
