Default Rear bump steer?

Quick query if I may.... I was out on the S2 the other week - on a long dual carriageway - making progress. The carriage way has a few undulations nothing too sharp but there all the same. In my DD (FWD) they are not noticeable, however in the s2 I felt what i thought was bump steer as the suspension extended and then compressed over the undulations. The s2k is an early one and as an occasional car the geo has not been touched. To be honest this is the only instance where I have noticed it - it corners brilliantly, doesn't seem snappy and feels very planted. My query is - should I be concerned and would you say it was the geo? Also rather than the whole bush/arm replacement - would it be cost effective to fit an anti-bumpsteer kit instead?

Cheers for any help!

It could just been the stiffer suspension and ARB's which are stiffer on the early MY's compared to others. If you've not had the geo checked though then at least should be done as you may well experience bump steer if your geo is out.

You can just replace the rear toe arms if you want to and even if they need grinding out then you won't need to touch the lower arm with the camber if those bushes are seized.

First and cheapest thing to do is to check the state of your rear tyres. I find that as they wear down, the bumpsteer becomes noticeably worse.

Plus the tyre pressures. But if not, not going straight over bumps certainly suggests the geo is out.

If the rear toe goes out (which it does a lot at the nearside due to crap roads) that could be it.

It's important that the toe-in is equal & opposite on both wheels.

I had noticeable bump streer and went thro a set of rears in 4000 miles. All was fixed by a visit to WIM who reduced rear toe in by 50% and I've still got the same rears 2 years later and very little bump steer.

Get the geo checked. Mine is significantly better at everything since it was set up.

i'd agree with the other posters that it's probably rear toe is not ideal, this makes a big difference and was way out on my car which hadnt had a geo for quite a while. Going to do it annually from now i think

Cool thanks - how was your geo when you had it done - seized at all? Is it possible to just tinker with the toe in without removing and replacing all bushes etc?
