Just had the 27000k service on MY03 S2000. When dropping the car off I asked them to check out a slight rattling on start up, I thought it sounded like a heat shield or similar. Got a phone call to inform me that the rattling is being caused by timing chain and tensioner needing replacing - a

Oh and the Timing Chain will be fine, it will just be the tensioner that needs replacing, very common on these cars if they run lowish on oil.

Where else other than HTG would you suggest buying the part?

How easy is 'easy' to fit?

Should this be done ASAP or put it in the list of things to do?

It's about $150 from Honda, looking at the online parts catalogue.

Not sure how different it would be in the UK though.

Depends how bad the noise is on start up really, Id say it should be high on the "to do" list but not on the "rush out tomorrow and get it sorted" list.

Buy from HTG there's no reason not to other than having to wait. You could buy from one of the jap import type people but it will be more expensive and take longer.

Fitting looks to be a doddle,

If the tensioner has gone, it makes a really horrid noise.

When cold, I get the odd click from mine that goes after about 1-2 minutes.

I put this down to the car warming up.

Mine sounds NOTHING like this though which is apparently the tensioner death noise:
