Default Refurbishment

Been looking at the side & seat bolsters on the driving seat of my 01 and they are pretty knackered, with loads of cracks etc in the red leather. I have talked it over with a trimmer I know and he reckons he could change the leather on both bolsters for about

other thign you can do easily is swap the left and right seat over ! the leather comes off very easily, that way both sides you see look like new !

Present company accepted, I cannot understand owners who dont maintain their leather seats (ie feed them) as part of their regular cleaning routine.. Especially as the leather in the S2000 will be exposed to the full brunt of the sun with top down.

the thing is not all of us buy them from new & i would of thought in most cases its the previous owners that have done the reglecting, then we are left to the fire fighting or repairs.

My drivers seat has a few very minor spot scag marks on it, has the usual darker crease marks & has worn through the main leather surface where the piping section is.

I've used the megs gold class cleaner & conditioner on all the leather once since i bought the car (last oct) & although it smelt nice i didnt really think it made much difference?

Am i using the wrong product ? Also how long ideally should i go between feeding?

Mine arent perfect either, previous owners neglect with a few creases etc. I use the autoglym products which contain conditioners & use them about once every 6 - 8 weeks..
Chuck a load on to soften it up nicely (leather cream that is!)

Feed neglected leather until the rate of soaking in slows down.

At first feed it then feed it again after a week. If the second lot was absorbed quickly then feed it again after a further week.

If the surface gets a slight sheen then it's overfed. Use a proper leather cleaner to remove the excess. Then feed about twice - 3 times a year. Little and often is the best way.

feeding is only part. You need to seal it as well else any grease or liquids will get absorbed.

Many many years ago a family friend a Capri with this same issue - the company he took it to used the leather off the back of the seat as a definate match, then replaced that with as close as they could find - there was a difference, but being the back of the seat, it looked like it was supposed to be like that. Matters even less on the S, having no back seats, but is that an option on the S? i.e., is there enough for what you need and is it the same leather exactly in the first place.
