Default Replacement of OEM brake discs/pads

Hi

I've already asked about particular costings for replacement brake discs and pads but just would like some advice on a couple of other things please.

Firstly, my option is to either replace just the rear brake discs/pads or replace both the rear and front. I am likely to not buy OEM discs/pads because of the price (although I understand the pads are not too extortionate). Would there be any problems in replacing just the rears with non-OEM if the front discs/pads remain OEM such as differing strength of the brakes (if that's the right term) from front to rear?

I understand that Brakes International provide good non-OEM discs (Bremtech) and pads (Mintex) but I've seen other names suggested too. All I'm after are replacements for OEM so no need for upgraded brakes at all (though obviously I don't want inferior brakes to OEM) - I feel I'm getting a bit confused because there's so many brands out there, some providing upgraded brakes, others not, but it's hard to know which ones are good!

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks - R

Brakes International discs all round, Honda pads all round (honda pads are good value IMO)

Also bear in mind, the ratio front to back braking is F 70% /R 30% (IIRC)

Bremtech discs are absolutely fine for road use.

I'd buy the bremtech discs from brakes international and OEM honda pads. The OEM honda pads are very hard wearing so worth paying a bit more for.

There's no issue with having non oem discs front to rear.

The Honda pads are good, and only a touch more. Honda discs are another matter, go for BI unless you're tracking it, then get an upgrade front at least.

I've just been hit by the old 'corroded disks' line today

Annoyingly car was serviced 2000 miles ago and flew through with no work required, but now has failed MOT on rear brakes.

Now I initially thought I was being played by the fella as the car feels fine and always brakes extremely well as far as I'm concerned but after I pushed him a little and made it clear that I wasn't going to be taken for a fool he explained a little further and I'm now almost convinced...almost.

Anyway...time to upgrade the stopping power I think.

This seems very reasonable to me, but what do you guys think?
I predominantly stick to road driving but I may do the very occasional track day.

I intend to do the fronts to match in another few 1000 miles as those are wearing out.
