Replacement Windscreen
Earlier this week I noticed a small chip, close to the edge of the windscreen on the passenger side, with a crack about half an inch long.
I am insured with Direct Line and one of their recommended windscreen repairers is Autoglas, who have a depot reasonably close to me at Watford. On Wednesday, I rang the Autoglass call centre who put me on a party line with my insurers and they confirmed the repair would be free and would not affect my no claims bonus. The repair was arranged for the following morning (Thursday).
The technician who came tried to carry out a satisfactory repair, but by this time the crack was an inch long, and due to its proximity to the edge it was obvious that the screen would go sooner rather than later. I agreed that the windscreen should be replaced so the technician rang and arranged for it to be carried out this morning (Friday).
There have been a number of windscreen replacement horror stories on the forum recently, so I was worried that I might encounter some problems. However the fitter who came knew what he was doing, and carried out the replacement in a very professional manner. No scratches, no spills, no rubbish in the cockpit, just a windscreen without six yearsworth of scratches and minor chips. I am a critical individual, but this was a 'ten out of ten' job. Well done Autoglass! I was so impressed that I tipped the fitter. Whoa!

yeah - i'm happy enough with mine, but they left the drivers side window down when doing it so the shards scratched the window on the way up. Apart from that and cleaning up after them.... good job!
Had mine replaced a week or two ago by National Windscreens, in croydon via my insurance co.
As far as I can tell, a fine job througout. No complaints.
Seems to be little down to which company but rather how good the individual installer(s) are.
