Tunnels ...... more tunnels ....... anywhere in the alps. There are some great passes along the alps, as well as across. If you're there at the right time, the Monza GP should not be missed. Tuscany is also brilliant, vineyards and medieval towns everywhere. If you're after architecture/culture as well as the drives, Prague and Budapest are worth considering. I've always wanted to go to Moscow, but not sure about taking an S.

You lucky sod! I am deeply envious - I think most of us would like to escape like this...

Would suggest you go north first (before their summer finishes) and do Denmark/Norway/Sweden before heading south through Germany Italy the Balkans, Greece etc before coming back up through France, Spain, Portugal...

Christ you could go for months! Better still why come back at all?

Alan.

My favourite tunnel is the SS36 road heading north from Lecco along Lake Como. 25 miles of dual carriageway in and out of tunnels all the way.

Passes - too many to mention all of them, but my favourites are:

Pyrenees :
Col de Pierre Saint Martin.

Col du Pourtalet.

Col du Tourmalet.

Alps:
Klausen Pass from Lake Wallen to Lake Lucerne via Linthal.

D902 from Briancon over Col d'Izoard to Chateau Queyras.

Greece:
Katara Pass.

Favourite places:
The Auvergne.
Gorge du Cians in the Maritime Alps.
Verdon Gorge.
The mountains north of Imst in Austria.
Cirque de Gavarnie in the Pyrenees.
Meteora in Greece:

Tuscany - San Gimingnano, Siena, Florence.

Don't forget to do the F1 circuit in Monaco.

Thanks for all the kind words and suggestions. I have taken notes.

Yea the plan was north 1st then to head south, to chase the sun as much as possible.

Leaving the 1st week of august some time.

Should be gone about 3 months - thats the rough plan thats the only planning.

Steve, you have some awesome photos there. Agree on the roads around Lake Como but I was on the other side from Lecco up to Bellagio, found another S2000 there and had a bit of a duet through the tunnels then let the heart rate return to normal by crossing the lake on the ferry.

Simplon Pass: loads of bikers and tunnels where you can overtake, as you're climbing from the Italian side. Deafening. The descent on the Swiss side was a bit busy though.

Col des Montets (I think?) crosses from Switzerland around Martigny area to France at Chamonix. The road was nice enough but nicer was the convoy I totally accidentally found myself in - some Merc convertible, me, Elise, Spitfire, some Porsche convertible. Soon passed the Merc, the Elise kept behind me so let him past as I didn't know the road too well.

Route Napoleon from Grenoble down to the south coast, Gorges du Verdon - not done myself but been recommended to me by many people.

Also one of my favourite local roads is from Albertville through Beaufort and past the Lac de Roselend. Totally deserted every time I go.

More as I think of them. Happy to form part of convoy, just let me know when
