Default Respray advice..

My mate is having his S2k resprayed shortly after a couple of vandalism incidents that have left nearly every panel being keyed. He's had his S for about 4/5 years now and asked me about changing the colour. Its a Silverstone/red at the moment, same as mine and hes thinking of having it done black. He's worried about resale value and is wondering whether or not it would be wise to change the colour.

He's thinking of taking photos of the car to show that it was not accident damaged as i guess thats maybe when most cars get a colour change.

Any advice would be appreciated, Cheers Jim

Here is the new colour, need to see it in the sun to apprecite the Deep Bronze Pearl colour (CTR colour). He's really pleased and has now signed on here so no abuse!! New front splitter and he's just bought some OEM 17s off eBay.

TBH, I think it would effect the value. If he wants a black one, get his redone in silverstone, sell it, and buy a black one!

very bad move as a rule

UNLESS - and it's hardly ever done

it's a complete shell respray - ie underbonnet, boot, etc as well

that's hardly ever done with low value cars, for obvious reasons

2nd what gaddafi said. The minute you open the bonnet and realise all the metal there is the original colour, it looks crap. IT has tobe a COMPLETE re-spray.

I assume insurance are paying for respray? If not, it'll cost him a lot to do it a different colour as I doubt insurers will be interested in having it done differently.

Re-spray a different colour ONLY (IMO Etc....) if the colour is not a standard S colour. If he wants a black one, sell up and buy a black one...

It's been discussed at length on the forum before. Do a search

General opinion seems to mirror the above though...

FWIW it's highly unlikely you'd get a bodyshop to do a full respray. If you did, it would be a very specialised one and you'd be looking at a bill in the region of

it's done more with low value cars!!

the cheaper and simpler the car the easier it is to strip and rebuild

i've had 2 novas painted from bare shells, with no hassle, but i would have no idea how to rebuild the s2k to factory quality

has anyone had a newish s2k reshelled by insurance?
