IIRC, the 'hairdresser' thing related to the popularity of the Triumph Shitfire back in the 1960s and it's sort of stuck. Dunno quite whether it includes Z4Ms & Tuscans, but it's spread.

Usually from those that drive an Audi or somesuch.

Hat racks is almost as obscure as uphill gardener...
