You can see them with the hood up too. Here you go, just put the new elastic straps over the existing ones.

Morning all,

I have fitted the new elastics on my car but i find that the hood doesnt retract all the way all the time. I have to open close the hood 2 or 3 times and then it will decide to sit properly in the fully lowered position. Does this sound about right? I do put protector on the roof fabric but its almost like its too stiff and takes a few goes to loosen it up enough to shut properly.

Anyone recommend a product that will keep the hood soft? I use autoglym at the moment which does a great job of protecting but not so good at keeping it soft.

It's to do with the weather.
The roof is vinyl so will get softer as it warms up. The same applies in the cold.

Once it's warm, try the roof - I bet it folds easily.

Ah right, didnt think about that. It was sunny yesterday but not warm so you are probably right. To be fair it was cover in dirt as well from the recent storms which probably doesnt help it retract.

Cheers for the advice!

Not really looked at this problem as my roof seems to flop right down and those elastics are as slack as that found in a whores knickers.
So sitting here bored I thought I would ask the question that's in my head , with out looking I presume the roof mechanism is stopped at either end of its travel with limit switches , is it these that need adjusting rather than the knicker elastic.

That's a consequence of age. You know all about that though, eh Chipanator?

Damn it, we've ruined another thread!

For an even simpler fix I bought these from Ebay and use two of them wrapped around the two bars and can adjust to tighten as and when: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item20bbd37673

Good shout, bought these after your post, a couple of sec's to fit and work great
I bought them too but never got to fit them, I don't understand where they fit.

Just put them round the two metal bars as close as you can to the existing elastic strips (if that makes sense). If you want a pic, let me know, or have a look at Ray's when you next see him which I'm guessing won't be long
