Its the engine management rather than the engine....

lets put it like this.. I put my JDM on a superflow dyno.. and was well short of 250

though apparently it was the highest S2000 they had measured up to that point.. with the peak at a higher rpm apparently due to the mugen ECU that was fitted.. so I don't know wether it was the base engine or the mods making some gains over the EU engine..

we have since squeezed something like 12-15hp's more out of the peak with some ECU and CAI work..and more under the curve.. but still not got it to 250.

one of the big problems in the dyno sessions is huge heat soak.. despite with fans you can't eliminate it... 55-60C can't help the numbers much.

never tested the engine in Japan.. so maybe there is some magic ingredient in the fuel I am missing..

like nick has said its all about the torque curve though. BHP is not always most important

I have a Year 2000 S2000 which is an Import and is always run on Shell Optimax

It has been fitted with:

A JP Custom Stainless Steel Dual Exit Exhaust

K&N Air Filter

Apexi VAFC2 (Told these add to the bhp)

How much bhp do you think it would be putting out???
Could you just hold whilst I get my psychic automatic distance reading dyno machine out...............

Around 190bhp.

If yo are lucky.

The quoted BHP is at the fly wheel, you will lose 15-20% in the transmition. I have seen modified MY01 S's pumping out around 170BHP. It is a highly tuned car and any increase in BHP is expensive.

Don't lose any sleep over it, take the thing out drive and pretend it got 300BHP.

Do like LittleChris did and stick some octane booster in, you may get a bigger number on the dyno but at

Bloomin' 'eck Simon, that's good going from just the mods in your list, I don't even see a replacement manifold or ECU! Or is your sig perhaps not telling the whole truth.... [cue cliffhanger moment tune at end of drama]

I have an AEM ECU, but it's still in it's box.

The car with Spoon N1 exhaust, decat and GruppeM, lightened flywheel and clutch seem to have given 197. Not a bad way to spend nearly 3k, for what 7 bhp !!

Running 53 plate engine and 00 ECU, shouldn't make a difference but ??
