Default Rusty wheel nuts and poor MPG

Following my recent threads on changing my front brakes, I noticed at lunchtime that the wheel nuts on the front wheels are now going rusty, I assume where the wheel brace has removed some of the coating.

Not too happy as I now need new wheel nuts, surely you should be able to undo them with the supplied wheel brace without this happening?

On an aside note; mpg prior to the NSF caliper binding was 29.6mph over 9 tankfulls, dropped to 27.09 when they were binding and back up to 29.75 once they were changed.

Just filled up again today (2nd tankful since brake change) and dropped to 27.4, most of the journeys on this tank have been sitting at 50mph in traffic on the way to work, certainly no spirited drives. Previous lowest was 28.04 and that was hooning it for virtually the whole 250 miles.

Any other suggestions what could be affecting it?

I don't think i've ever seen an MPG like that out of mine. I'd be stoked with all of those figures

I also monitor my mpg and I get between 29.5mpg and 27mpg mostly motorway driving with a few vtec blasts.

I'm getting slightly lower mpg now that it is getting really cold outside.

I'd say most of the time i'm bang on 28mpg

I agree, don't get too hung up on the MPG, unless it's massively different. Variations in ambient and driving conditions can play a huge part.

Why the hell would you buy a sports car and moan about MPG???

Official MPG is only about 25mpg.

Catch the bus If it bothers you

My mpg is about 23, but I always enjoy lots of as well as the full range of my S.

Get a diesel beater if mpg is your main concern.

Use the S for FUN !

I hadn't meant to come across quire so anal about the mpg, I am not concerned about what the figure is, or the cost, more the change in figure.

I'll put it down to change in weather.

The original subject purpose of the thread was a nuts rant. Coupled with my school boy error of not realising the spokes of the alloy stand proud of the tyre wall and leaning the alloy face onto the floor and marking the spokes, the OSF looks rubbish now

Ah well, better make sure I enjoys lots of topless and on the way to work this morning
