Default RX8 Encounter

I had a blue with an RXB plate today on the Eaglesham moors trying to pull away from me one several occasions. I had to back off the throttle every time, and really had to feather it once we got going!

Only point he gained any ground was when he crossed over lanes into the oncoming carriageway on a bend on the brow of a hill, which I decided against. He had the advantage of T/C and I didn't fancy risking a slide just to re-prove my point. After that I just short shifted and cruised up behind him as we met traffic.

I gave him a wee toot of the horn as we went our separate ways, but I don't think I got a response. Even when I turned to offer a smile as we pulled at the roundabout.

It may well have been the cheap RX8 but I don't think you can tell from the outside. Either way, it was a long way off the S in terms of raw pace.

I wonder if anyone has bought the lower powered RX8 - the small price difference probably suggests very few have. I wonder what the percentage sales are between both models?I saw a black RX8 over the weekend - looked very tidy but its does need an extra 40bhp I think.

It owes a lot styling wise to the S2000. The front end spoils the car for me. It just looks too...busy.

The 192 BHP is possibly the better model, as it has much better torque delivery. It probably suits the average RX-8 driver, who is not a total car nut as is a typical S2000 buyer.

Having said that, there are a few enthusiasts with 231s, who will gladly demonstrate the car's easily accessible performance by embarrassing tyros in their S2000s!

Maybe it was a 230bhp RX8 but without many miles on it. I got murdered last week by another S2000...... he pulled on me so much in 2nd gear Vtec I got out of his way!

I have only done 6,500 miles and his was a plastic rear screened one so I guess he's done alot more miles. It looked totally standard and well used (dirty!). It was like he was in a different league. I have no reason to think there is anything wrong with my car - it makes all the right noises but is still loosening up. It was so noticeable how he gained on me. I don't think he was anticipating how slow mine was as he almost ended up in my boot...... here's hoping mine goes like that after more miles as his was very impressive.

Let's hope so.

I'd like to time mine to 100 or so.

It feels VERY quick lately, and I perceive that it's quicker than the test times.

12500 miles or so.

12500 miles or so.

I'm thinking of doing a 0-120mph test once the weather gets better. Down the airport obviously.

I gues that's down to the colder weather as much as the engine loosening up Gad. A winter's Sunday morning drive is always a pleaser

In a test recently the large tuning company in Japan called Blitz created a supercharger kit for the RX8, they were given a 230bhp version by Mazda and found it only to have in the region of 180bhp......

This was brought to light as their supercharger made the car produce around 250bhp which makes it look crap value for money until you see the actual power gains
