Default The S was hit today whilst I was at work

I parked the car up and went to work. I came back on found this. My heart sank and no note on the screen. Very shortly afterwards, a bloke who works in a shop opposite the incident location handed me a post it note and told me that the driver who had hit my car waited for 15 minutes for me and left his details. The other driver has accepted liability and wants to go private subject to the cost or through insurance.

I had a chat with a friend who runs a body shop and was told that I would need to confirm that I'm good for the money to get a hire vehicle.

Is it worth going through a claims management company or should I ask my insurers to deal with this. I'm with Sky insurance and the last time I had a non fault accident they passed this on to an accident management company. I get the feeling the accident management companies don't disclose your potential liability upfront if a claim is not settled in your favour.

I just want the car fixed with minimum fuss and exposure to the chap who hit my car.

That will be too expensive for him to stomach. there's 300-400 in painting plus a door skin/entire door and repair to the sill. it won't be much less than a grand will it?

You could deal direct with his insurer?

for your car

someone actually took responsibility

The accident management company will offer you a hire car etc, but you don't have to accept one. Ask Sky for advice as they are your broker and not your insurer. They will be able to tell you what procedure your insurer follows in these instances.

Or, get an estimate of the cost quickly, and let the guy know how much it's going to be, and see if he still wants to go privately, or deal with insurers.

Gutted for you. Get 3 quotes and send them back to him. If he can't swallow it go through the insurance, thats wht you pay for...

Did they hit the sill too?

+1 to all that
Do you need the hire car? If so go through the insurance as I doubt the guy will cough that up

Ask the guy for £400 upfront or you'll go through insurance... Simple
