Default S2000 Day 1 - First Impressions

At 6.30pm last night I finally got the keys to my 07 Midnight Blue/Black Leather 89 miles on the clock S2000.

I picked the car up from a garage in North Barnet - I hadn't seen it with its hardtop on before. I have to say, obviously the car looks better with soft top or no top(!) but I kinda like the hard top look.

I was pretty dissapointed it was raining... and raining pretty heavily. After finialising the dealer stuff I set off on the 3hour journey back to Bournemouth to see the other half.

2 problems hit me straight away. 1st - The stereo needed a Code to unlock it. The dealer didn't have it and was told I would have to call Honda the next day to get it.
Bit of pain as I love driving with music - but then again it gave me a good chance to hear the S's engine - and I love the sound of it

The 2nd problem was the digital display - 5 mins into the drive in started to look like a broken digital watch - not displaying figures properly. I was tempted to turn around and go back to the garage but that probably would of meant leaving the car there, so I didn't bother... I am assuming its a battery issue (sitting still for so long). To cut this story short - 30 mins after getting home I went down to have another look inside it, I turned it on and the display was fine! (Still going to get it checked out though)

The drive to Bournemouth (and back as it turned out) was the most enjoyable drive I've ever had. The car is by far the most powerful I've ever owned... the handling seemed perfect to me... its tight yet very responsive.

Obvioulsy having 89 miles on it, I couldn't thrash it yet when a Saab convertible decided to drive approx 5cam off my rear I couldn't help but drop it into 4th and slowly started applying pressure to the throttle... in no time at all the car was doing nearly a ton and I decided that was enough fun for day 1.

Now Bournemouth as a town, has a whole shed load of roundabouts - and I was cautious about all this driving in the wet... however I didn't have any issues... just controlled it round the roundabout and only accelerated when the car was in a straight line again.

I can't believe I nearly brought a RX8 or 350z. Having driving the car I know I made the right decision!

Overall - its my best purchase ever! I am in love with it, I cannot wait to finish work. I'm taking it to Brighton tonight for a family visit, then off to Bournemouth tomorrow.

I'm just praying the sun comes out so I can get the top down for the first time!

I will be taking a shed load of photo's over the weeked... and will post them up on Sunday night!

On a final note - once again thanks to all who advised/replied to my questions and comments over the last couple of weeks.

It gets better once the engine has loosened up a bit

nice to see those pre sales checks have been done... id be on teh phone shouting at them now to sort this asap ! also try and get a free service out of them , if its done 89 miles someone at the dealership must have driven it and you can say they would not have noticed the radio and clocks did not work - are you sure the radio code is not on the paperwork ? its normally written in the book isnt it ?

As Tom said, the radio code is often in the front page of the service pack. If its not there its not a major issues and Honda should sort it for you quickly.

Have you thought of doing any driver training courses, you say this is the most powerful car you have ever driven, dont want it to catch you out but dont want you to be missing out on fun you could be having

Weather forecast in the south is, sadly, rather mixed today and tomorrow. I was rather looking forward to a bit of a thrash having had to leave the car parked up for the last week while at work. Ho hum.

When you do get the roof down it'll feel all the better. Really! Never mind the fact that you're open top, and maybe its a strange psychological thing, but I actually feel like the car is that much better topless!

Oh, and give it a try with the airbox lid off too. Mmmmm.....!

Just take out the stock radio and put a decent one in this weekend.

Congratulations!

No the first page of the service book is empty.

Problem is the Car is from a dealership that brought the car from a Honda Dealership (Alan Proud) who btw where just plane rude to me on the phone.

They are saying they brought the car from somewhere else and they DON'T KNOW who!

Am pretty angry about it.

So whoever reg'd the car first never bothered to fill in the book.
