Interesting discussion;

Must admit I was tempted when I read about the RX8, good price for the car. But glad I bought the S in the end.

Go for the S, you'll find the roof very difficult to take down on the RX 8..

Do Mazda even have any available to test drive yet? My brother flirted with the idea of opting out of the company car scheme a couple of months back and buying an RX8 - Mazda were taking deposits but they were non-refundable and there was no option to test drive it in advance of putting it down. Also they couldn't be sure which insurance group it was going to fall into, so my brother had no idea whether cover would be affordable.

I'll be going to test drive one as soon as they're available in the UK!

Me too Mark - as an existing and recent Mazda customer I had expected to be contacted and offered a prodrive day, which Volvo recently offered me for the S60R, but nothing has been forthcoming yet.
Historically Mazda have been a bit low end in my opinion- apart from the RX-7 and their dealer network isn't that good at selling cars in my experience - went to one dealership, had literally a 10 minute 1 pound of petrol test drive and went elsewhere and bought the car for cash, which was dientical to the one the first garage had, wierd really.

I think the RX8 is a lovely looker. But if your needs are not specific, ie 4 seats, etc then the S will excite you a lot.

I`m sure you`ll find its an easy match for the `8 and in many ways excels, ie soft top.
