Default S2000 horror stories and help

Dudes,

I am new to the board so Hello from me, my name is Phil and im 24 (about to turn 25).

Im currently driving a 325 Ci Convertible BMW but as im turning 25 in 3 months at which time Adrian Flux will insure me I am about 95% sure that I will be purchasing an S2000.

I would like you guys to tell me some of the scarier moments you have had in your S2000's to prepare me!

Also are there any questions I should ask when speaking to people who want to sell me one other then the standard questions... i.e. any known faults e.g. leaking roofs etc?

My budget is going to allow me to buy something between a 2002 and 2004. What should I look out for??

Thanks in advance, I know most of you will think 'I cant be ars*d to help some random stranger' but please do, I plan to be here for a while!

Hello and welcome.

This is a friendly place - you will get lots of help.

Seized bushes are the big one - can cost 4 digits to remedy.

This will help a lot when you have some reading time.
Fast track stuff

Ask away anything you need to want to know.

The S is a great car, but the most dangerous and scary thing is the nut behind the wheel. It causes all sorts of accidents.

Get some proper driver training, airfield days etc. You will enjoy the car more.
I mentioned in another thread today that the car has more ability than most folks on here have talent.

As I said - Ask away.

The S is pretty bombproof. The roof wears out - sure.
It is the seized bushes that is the pricey thing.

And the S is no widowmaker.
But there are lots of stories I'm sure.

Just learn how to drive a RWD car, slow in fast out.
Driving it like you would a hot hatch - you will end up in a ditch.

Say im looking at a 20002 monte carlo blue with GT hardtop:-

From my viewpoint im going to ask:-

Has it been Cat C / D
Whats its service record
When was it last serviced
How far have the tyres gone
Any roof leaks / tears / scuffs
List of works carried out
Any receipts for works carried out
Whens next service in
Any outstanding works for next service

Is this about right or am I missing something?

Have the bushes been greased - Can they produce the receipt?
If not - then budget for sometime in your ownership £1000 to get sorted.
If may be much less, it may be more.

Open the boot, lift the artificial floor- see if there is any sign of water.

The usual stuff about replacement panels, alignment, paint colour matching.

Mileage

Has the timing belt been changed? is a good one.
The S has a timing chain. ( look at the link I gave you - it mentions when it needs replaced ).

Does the car accelerate in a straight line, brake etc.

Where are you based?
You may be able to have someone on here look at the car with you.
