Default S2000 insurance - READ THIS!

Ok... to start with I shall tell you a little about me and my S2000....
I'm 36, 11 years no claims, live in a VERY quiet postcode, no crashes or
convictions, etc , etc.. you get the gist...

My S2000, standard apart from 18"s, Magnaflow exhaust & K&N Typhoon.

(It is an 03 with low miles covering 6000 per year at the max)

Right... I went onto Autotraders insurance search engine to get a quote..

At first i did not mention any mods to get an idea how much they add to the policy one by one....

My quote returned a respectable

you can't expect a mainstream insurer to be that familiar with mods

any more than you would expect B&Q to be genned up on marquetry

the prices are all over the place because of different assessments of risk/how much they want the business

twas ever thus

Nice thread Lloydie.

A 'friend of mine' has had a custom cat-back system built and installed. 'He' decided he ought to tell his insurance company for the usual reasons.

Anyway, they looked it up on their little computer and said that they would have to charge as if he had replaced from the manifold back.

He argued that this was not what the modification was and why should he pay a further premium for something that he hadn't actually got!?

In the end he decided not to officially tell his insurer. His argument being that he had offered this information to the company but they were unable / unwilling to supply a proper quote. What more could he have done?

He likened it to using Optimax and your insurance company saying 'well the nearest we have to that is a 10-bar turbo charger so we'll be charging you for that'!

It's not even as though cat-back systems are rare!

Let's hope you don't have a large claim.

Let's hope they don't have someone who knows about cars and mods.

Yes i know...

The bit that gets me is the fact an Insurance company wouldnt insure me with the standard car but gave the cheapest quote when modified??

I do know a hell of a lot about insurance as i used to work along side engineers categorising crashed vehicles etc.. this particular issue above just winds me up... espeacially the fact that no one in their office knew much about cars...

Another thing that gets my hair up.... foriegn call centres, GRRRR!!!
