Default S2000 Oil Filter/Canister Size

Hey folks,

As the title really. I'm going to do an oil change myself soon and I'm struggling to find which Canister Tool I need that will fit the S2000 oil filter?

After reading up on it, I don't want to take the risk of doing it hand-tight only.

Also - I've just read about an 'Oil Trip' in the S2000 that advises you when you need to change your oil... I presume this is in later cars or even just US cars??

Cheers,
Rhauri

What you can do is get an oil filter then measure it size, as pre-MY04 uses a smaller oil filter.

The tool that you are after is call an oil filter cup. It allows you to fit on a torque wrench. The torque setting are written on the OEM oil filter.

Oh and if you are still worried, you can always get one of those oil filter stopper. I did recall seeing some for sale in the trade forum.

The tool for the correct filter has 15 flats. You can't give an 'across flats' measurement because of the odd number but it's about 78/9 mm.

No idea if this is a standard size or not, you may be better buying the Honda one.

There is no oil trip on any European S2000, maybe it's something the us get along with their cruise control.

Or you can put on a larger oil filter.
I use a Baldwin B7042 oil filter that is over twice as big as the stock Honda oil filter for the "S"

I have one if you want it mate... fits the PCX proper oil filter, not the generic crap one (smaller) that gets put on by dimwit dealers (this smaller one is for Civics and Jazz so I believe, your dealer will tell you otherwise). Hand tight is fine if you have biceps of steel, generally though as a "just in case" its best to tighten with the cap tool and follow the 7/8ths guide. Unless you are an engineer that worries about his nuts, don't bother with the filter falling off stopper. Best to spend THAT £20 on something else

That is not correct, all MY S2000s use the same PCX-004 oil filter.

I could be interested in it if Rhauri doesn't want it.

Search a well known auction site for "80mm 15 flute" and you'll find one that fits perfectly. I've used this for the last 3 changes. Think it's advertised as being for motorbike filters. Will cost under a tenner.
