Default S2000 pulls to the left

Hi

I crashed my S last October and had to have the passenger side front wheel assembly completely rebuilt including a full set of new wheel and tyres. The car performs 100% on a flat road, but on a road with any sort of camber it tends to want to pull to the left (and there is a noticeable reaction through the steering wheel).

The garage who repaired the car are currently testing it. The wheel alignment, balancing, tyre pressures and overall geometry have all been checked and are fine. The garage are saying that cars with firm setups like the S2000 tend to be more sensitive in these condition.

Sounds like bo#@ocks! to me as i was never aware of it before I had my prang. Any comments, feeback appreciated.

cheers

Alistair

My accident free car does the same - that why I'm getting my alignment checked soon...

I understand that the best alignment testing gear you can get is based on laser technology. You should check that they are using state of the art stuff as I imagine that only a very slight deviation from true could make a big difference. Having said that you would expect the car to always drift in the direction of the camber.

Agree with Welshman about expecting a pull in the direction of camber. Try it on something perfectly flat if you can. Maybe a car park.

A few other suspects, away from alignment.

Did they replace BOTH sets of front springs/shocks?

Ditto front brake pads and discs.

Ditto front tyres

Replacing only one side on either of the above could produce a pull.

Finally, you have checked the tyre pressures?

Steering damage due to accidents can be a nightmare to repair.

Assuming they have set the castor correctly, there are other likely problems that they often overlook:

Is the steering rack straight? Are the track rods equal & opposite in length?

Has the subframe been replaced? If the pickups have moved, it doesn't matter how accurately the kingpin is aligned, you will get a different geometry across the car.

Is the shell straight?

i get my 4 wheel alignment checked every year, not just because the book says so, but i can feel my car wants to wane off to the left and cornering becomes hard work, ( i have to keep making adjustments even going around a bend not to mention a corner).
have you checked for uneven tyre wear, your tyre depth might be ok (legal) but make sure the wear is the same across the whole of the tyre, especially the fronts.

I have a similar problem too.

I had a small "prang" last summer - I think that is why my right brake pad is also wearing down faster due to a minor alignment problem.

Needless to say the motor is going in next week to be checked out by Honda - will let you know the outcome.

Hey, I have had the drivers side assembly completely rebuilt recently. The car does exactly what you describe. I am 80% sure it did not do it before the suspension was rebuilt.
You notice it mostly when you change gear or take your foot off the accelerator.
What also happens with mine is that, when you blip the throttle hard while going down a straight road, it will pull to the right slightly, then when you take your foot off it swings to the left!

Everything has been checked... Alignment etc.
