Unhappy S2000 v VXR

A friend at work is just finished running in his Astra VXR. Any body had any run in's with a VXR. It looks fast on the road. He has seen the stats in Autocar and thinks i should be blowing him out. I dont think its going to be that way!!

Any old chav can floor a VXR, they are easy to drive on bends etc, the S2K however, we all know it has its limits, break them and she bites back with a vengence usually by spinning out and finding the nearest tree or post!

If you are going to do it, do it in the dry.

In a straight line you will struggle, the VXR is fast.
I have been up against one on a private straight runway and up to 120mph there is very little in it.

from a standing start you should have a slight advantage due to superior traction.

from a rolling start i dont think theres much in it, VXRs do accelerate well at higher speeds and i dont think theres anything in it over 100

Yes im hearing that Lloyd. Dont want to end up in a bush... at the side of the road.

How come there is such a big gap when you look at the stats in Autocar. That man must of got a very clean start!!

IMO you would eat him for breakfast but it takes some balls. I struggled with a Saxo VTS once on a bendy A road, he was pedal to metal and I was having to toy the pedals and watch every move, I did take him easy on the straight but no way would I go any faster on the bends, I do respect the S2000 handling, it is deffo a mans car but it takes months of throwing it about before you feel secure on bends.

Have you lost yours yet? I lost mine 3 times in 18 months of ownership, 1. Aquaplaining on the M42 at 70mph 2. Taking a bend way too fast (dry road) it let go and tapped the kerb.. lucky escape 3. Usual slight power off roundabout and waheyyyy!

The reason VXRs are fast is that the turbo spools early and fully at aorund 2.5k upto 6.5k ie a wide power band, unlike the s2k

But they do torque steer especially at lower speeds and less so as the speed increases.

Dont expect to to beat them by any significant margins on straightlines
