Steering: At last, things are swinging back the other way, for even though it is slack-free and quick (2.5-turns), the wheel in the S2000 doesn

Conclusion: Can I leave it at an unsatisfying draw? Despite the many similarities, the two cars are very different to drive, and reward in different ways

That's why i bought it...i do have other cars to be sensible with , even some others which aren't sensible
Nice write-up though.

A good write up!

However, why do people think that the S2000 steering feel is rubbish? I think its light, but you can easily feel whats going on. Perhaps its just personal preference

As for your comment about shifting up at 7500 and keeping pace with a DC2 at full chat - i'd have to disagree. Keeping up with an ITR on a B-Road in an S2000 would demand the most of the car and driver.

The biggest difference I noticed was how much smoother the F20C is than the B18C-R - I can only assume its thanks to the roller-bearing valvetrain. Nevertheless, you think taht the B18 is going to explode, whereas its seems all in a days work for the F20C.

I'm going to have a look at a 96JDM item on tuesday for my brother. I'll have a good drive back to back just incase I notice any differences.

Ultimately though, i'd be inclined to agree with the outcome of your review.

Both cars are amazing driver tools. For me, I wanted the soft top option because there is something more 'involved' about driving with the hood down.

However, i'd never say no to a DC2

I like your thinking and you write up! you've drawn your own conclusion on both cars admirably, i wish more people would think like this before buying a car. I personally bought the S for a different reason, coming from motorcycles the S ticked every box, i see it as a weekend car to blast away on country roads, i wanted a soft top and something that reved real hard, so easy decision, well apart from the power and hey presto, one supercharger later the car is fantasic. I wish you well and hope you are happy with your decision.

The 7,500rpm comment was based on experimental data gained on a nice straight A-road with the assistance of my wife. All within the limit of course!!!
And it feels about right across the two cars...although I'm not sure my 'teg couldn't do with a little bit of a tune-up (maybe it's just the 'feel when getting back into it after the S).

Re: steering - mine's acceptable now I've done geo and braces - when I first bought it it was close to Audi levels of numbness. But it's still not as natural and informative as the DC2 helm. If you've the space to exploit it and correct it, it doesn't matter, but on a twisty nadgety B-road there's an element of 'faith' involved which you don't get in a 'teg or an Elise...

Oh..Rislar...this is after 2 years of S ownership and c.4 of 'teg ownership across 2 cars! But thanks for the comments!
