Do these cars age as well as other cars you have owned?
I nearly bought one last year but ended up getting a BMW diesel for the daily commute instead (was doing many miles). Bought it with 44k miles on it, now done 71k and it is aging well. But I`m doing less miles and considering an S2000 again as it`s the type of car I like (my other car is an old first generation BMW M3 Evo 2 - 220bhp 2.3litre normally aspirated 4cylinder engine). Despite being 17 years old it also looks pretty good, and goes well too.
Anywya, I took a quick look over a 2003 S2000 today (Fawcetts Newbury) with 37 k miles on it, and I must admit I was less than impressed. Carpets looked not so nice, rear wheels would soon need refurbishing as they had white patches were the top layer was damaged so they were corroding, side skirts on both sides at the bottom seemed quite stone chipped. SOme wear signs around the hood. I also thought the leather on the driver side bolsters would soon be cracking too.
Just not such a great example, or do they generally not hold up so well over time? Plus the screen price was 19699 yet the website said 18999 - why do many dealers do this (not the first time Ive seen forecout prices higher - done to get cusomter s onto their forecourt?).
I can only say that my 2003, apart from some car park dings, is in great condition.
Look at the Burg Al Arab thread and you can see it there.
Like any cars, it depends on the previous owners. I had a Mazda MX6 that had been lovingly looked after before I had it and I did the same. It was snapped up when I sold it.
The wheels btw probably would be replaced under warentee.
The alloys are not the car's strongest suit and have been known to corrode.
They can, howver, be replaced under warranty and extended warranty. I had mine changed on a car that was just under 5 years old.
As you say, i think you picked a particularly bad example. If the car is looked after and cared for you should be able to maintain in it tip top condition. Mine is 5 1/2 years old, but has been well looked after and is in near mint condition.
i am happy with mine, though i have changed alot of bits in recent months, but bodywork and the underside are in very good condition.
I plan on a replacement program which will take me a few months to get all done, going over the whole car to see what is next on the list to replace or refurbish so it lasts and keeps in top condition. I dont plan on selling mine, have no need to change up for something better, and when i did i think i will keep the S.
i dont think i will get rid of something that looks this good for its year.
Funnily enough I was in the shell garage on saturday, filled up, came out to find another S behind me - the fella in it said is that yours? and hed just picked his up 5 mins earlier! It was a 51 wil 92K on the clock! it looked MINT.
They seem to pick up stonechips fairly easily, I guess it's due to the shape and height of the car. Alloys are rubbish, but you can get them professionally refurbished. Interior seems to wear well
