S2k an option
Considering my options to change car soon and the 'S' as you all call it is definately an option
.
Im starting to look through your forum at the moment and its nice to see theres some helpfull sensible chat on here. Of course theres always a couple of people who cant resist the 'I spanked that ferraris arse' route. But, on the whole it looks like theres a nice variety of car owners, and some who've stuck around after selling there S. Always a good sign.
Im currently driving a slightly tuned fiat coupe 20VT, which is a great car for my needs. 260 horses of lazy midrange grunt and something a bit different (quirk factor is quite important to me) Theres a great fiat coupe forum by the way.
But im looking for an S or similar as a complete change to this. Anything to similar to my coupe and wouldnt be worth it, and its not all about power really. So later in the year as a 30th Birthday present to myself a two seater droptop of some sort is on the cards.
Anyway, hello to all and i'll be lurking around for a bit probably

Quite nippy those fiats.
You'll find the s2k a very different proposition. They are just not comparable on the torque front and when you're used to the shove in the back a turbo engine gives you, the s2k will feel slow until you've got used to it.

Depends on your budget but as 2 seater drop tops go for the money you can't really get better. New you would be looking at another 10k before you could get something that had the beating of the S in most departments. You'll get a car that is better in one area but not as an all rounder.
Thanks for the welcome! One thing i would add aswell is that you lot dont seem to mind pointing out the flaws of the S. Which IMO makes the praise all the more potent.
I've got 13k to spend so apart from the S2000 my options would be:
Old Boxster probs the 2.7
Elise
VX220
TT (dont think i could though)
MX5
I've not driven any of them yet.
Anyone think of any others??

the Boxster was out for me, the 2.7 just doesn't do it, when there is a 3.2 etc. (I couldn't have the 3.2 on my company petrol card.. 3.0l limit).
My last car was a VX220 and is very raw compared to the air conditioned, carpetted S2000
The TT feels like a boat, imho, and I didn't like the enclosed feel when I drove one for 6weeks (hire car)

Old Boxster is likely to be far too old for the money, Elise and VX are pretty similar with the Elise coming out well on top, hardly practical though.
TT, don't bother unless you are looking for an opened up coupe that doesn't handle terribly well and the MX5 is a fantastic car that isn't as fast as the S, if you can handle all the hairdresser comments.
With that budget I'd be leaning towards a higher mileage S or a nice MX-5 as a daily drive and would only venture into Elise land as a weekend toy.

My wife recently bought her S2000 and considered all the cars you have mentioned but also included an MR2.. (not quite sure why)
However, even she wouldnt consider an MX5, the do handle great but they are far to much a girly girls car..
In the end she went for the S2000 due to the power, how uncommon they are, and boot space.
VX220 was a close second but due to lack of boot space and the fact it was so bare inside she couldnt cope !

Hello,
There's quite a few here with a fondness for the old Coupe FIAT.
All I caan say is; drive them!
The Elise is an absolute treat, the old MX-5 is a really special car, the Germans a tad sterile. Really, the S2000 is a no-brainer, if you can get to grips with its individuality.
