S2K Rally engine, valve train/reliability upgrades
Hi,
Been browsing here for a while, some useful info, great site.
I'm a Honda fan and have a dc2 and an accord type r.
I have started building a talbot sunbeam rally car and it has an f20c
It's currently running 50mm throttle bodies and non standard management.
I have bought a baffle for the sump.
My next job is to upgrade (for reliability) the valve train.
Just after some advice on the best parts to go for, the rev limit will be somewhere around 9.5k and being a competition car it will be driven hard.
It's not going to cover huge miles of course so titanium bits etc would be ok.
The parts I've seen and read about seem more geared up to the turbo route, mine will be n/a.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Mark

Hi Mark, I race mine (04) engine, and it's done 1000 miles under race conditions and still sweet as a nut. The 04 has the later retainers (AP2 is the US 2,2 but our 04 got the upgraded retainers)
I've changed my valve springs and retainers to Ti as it's just a bit more over rev protection.
9500 I think you are pushing your luck a bit though. Piston speeds aside, your rods may be the weak point.
I've kept mine at 9100 from memory.
Is it tarmac or forest stages you do?

Thanks chaps,
It's mainly tarmac rallying.
I was looking into the later retainers but thought I may upgrade the whole valve train.
Ill stick to 9100rpm then!
What parts have you used MB?
Thanks again
