Default sat nav

Hello,

Really want to install a fixed satellite nav rather than keep taking tom tom down etc it seems none of the motorised single din units will fit. There was a good post with pictures on here from america the set up looked great but involved lots of cutting and way above my skill levels.

Then I saw this JVC KD-NX5000

Looks great replaces standard radio and has a colour screen 3.5" very pricey though then thought might save up for one, then found them to be discontinued.

Would be interested though to know what members think and has anyone got one fitted, never know one might turn up on ebay.

Pointless?

Why not get an N97 or other smart phone with a bigger screen that does everything, like TomTom too?

You wont see it in the sun, and its too far away.

plain dangerous trying to stare into the radio to see where the next turn is, unless you just want it for spoken nav which is a pain.

I'm not a fan of the sucker mount and trailing cables but I've had integrated units in other cars and for the money you get a better unit, screen and features by going for a stand alone.

I have only just replaced my Alpine single DIN sat nav with an ipod one, no issues at all, apart from the updating of maps.

Everything else was fine.

The stick-on satnavs may look a bit naff, but all the built-in ones I've seen are either ridiculously overpriced utter shit (OEM) or overpriced utter shit in the wrong place (DIN-mount ones).
