Sat Nav Options
Is it possible to retro install some sort of sat-nav system ie: one of those pioneer types where the screen pops out etc or do you use some form of PDA?
If you use a PDA type system what model do you use, what software, GPS antenna etc, does it speak to you ie:Please take the next right turn etc?
regards
Simon

Simon, it may be worth PMing fatboy - he lives in Solihull and posted recently asking about SatNav. I think he said he uses an Ipaq attached to the windscreen via a holder with suckers. He might be willing to give you a demo of his!
The thread was on the board last week so it will be somewhere on the first few pages of the board, probably. Alternatively, try doing an advanced search limited to this board, using "fatboy" and other SatNav/iPaq related keywords.
(There are a number of us in Solihull - fatboy, Craig, me, T7HUG and at least two others that I see round and about but who have never put in an appearance on the board.)

I use an iPaw with a NavMan jacket using co-pilot software. The software is superb, it does speak (commentary of the directions), it re-calculates if you miss a turn and its easily transferable between different cars, i.e. you take it off its "sucker" on the windscreen!
I use ipaq, navman bluetooth receiver and tomtom software - I would recommend the tom tom software as better than anything else I looked at (yes it recalculates & talks to you but only as loud as the volume on the PDA, which isnt much). As for reciever/PDA choice, I think thats more down to budget - bluetooth means fewer wires and more cost but a jacket is as good if a little bulky - you also need line of sight to the sky so mounting options might be limited.
I also have an iPaq with the co-pilot jacket but have opted to use the tom tom software instead, at least until co-pilot live adds support for traffic updates. I don't have an S2000 to put it in yet, but hopefully soon will.
PXE is right about the volume problem, specifically on some of the newer iPaq's e.g. H55xx series. I've overcome this in my volvo by taking an old cigar lighter handsfree kits, the type that have a speaker the plug directly into the cigar lighter socket and have modified it so it has a 3.5mm mon jack socket as the sound input instead of my old mobile phone, with it's built in amplified I can now have the software shout loudly at me, which is nice. Its a bit heath robinson but it works. Not sure how I'll fit it all into the S2000, but where there's a will....
Once again tomtom is the best software currently, if your interested in reviews of s/w and h/w goto http://www.pocketgps.co.uk

Hi all
i use an Ipaq 3970 with Navman GPS jacket , and tomtom2 software ( you need 128mb sd or compact flash card for maps ) software, had copilot not as good as tomtom, Navman gps uses sucker to windscreen which is rubbish. Very much want a bluetooth gps to cut down on wires AND if you install it on wind deflector between seats you still get good enough signal even with hood up and it cannot be see from outside the car so can be left ( tried somebody elses at work ) . i still need to identify a good pda holder.
i also use trafcam software for speed cameras and this links into tomtom software.
demos possible but cannot recommend http://www.pocketgps.co.uk enough as its got all info you could possibly need.
Only thing you need to check is that windscreen etc is not the type that blocks gps signal , some heated screens can do this also
plus with a PDA youve got internet , email, games, books, music, and they are upgradeable, which fixed car sysyems are not
