Just had a chat with the garage, and the discs were "only just caught" sounds to me like they were after a sale of some discs.

Don't you just love them? (I'm starting to get psyched up about the hassle mine is probably going to give me on Friday - "oh, it wasn't the lambda, so we changed the airfilter, cat, etc, etc and here's a bill including the all the bits that weren't faulty and we changed anyway" - I don't like conflict for the sake of it but I'm not going to be taking any of their sh1t!)

scored discs will do no harm what so ever on a beater as long as they are not more than a mm or so deep. they were just after the sale of discs. pads will wear a bit quicker though.

I run a beater in UK rather than use rental cars......for me that is bodywork/interior that I don't care about..

....however I would not run on borderline brakes, shocks, tyres ? I agree scored disc is a try on by the tester..

why take the risk for a few notes, you are just as likely to have to make an emergency stop in your beater as you are in your best car.

I thought you could get discs skimmed to remove the scoring rather than replace them (wouldn't do htis on a decent/quick car) ?

Someone at work offered to skim them for me, but when you look closely there's really nothing wrong with them anyway.

The shocks are also ok, again just a garage trying it on

The car is completely roadworthy apart from the dodgy brakes which they should really have picked up on. The tester was on a complete power trip, his first comments were "that'll never get through", interspersed with comments like "go on I'll let you off with that one" Tosser
