Default scuttle shake

hi ,

I have noticed that the car seems to be getting very knocky or it thuds from bump to bump. How you would imagine a bad convertible is supposed to be.new tyres 5 k ago, still Plenty of thread and tyres are 31 all round.maybe that and if so whats recommended.i drive dual carrigway style roads 50% and country lanes 50%.In Ireland country lanes are what you would call farm tracks maybe.Has me a bit worried that i may have a loose rear frame or mounts.

what should i be checking, was planning to come over to CG this december but have Rally Ireland, euro disney and over to you lot for race of champions in wembley so no time.might do it in jan.

help

Have you had the dampers checked.

Are there still spacers in your springs - it took Honda 6 years to find mine.

Seized suspension arm?

Slid under the car and knock and shake it about. Once you have roughly pin pointed the problem, take some pictures and post them.

sounds like loose bushes on the dampers, can you notice it more one side or the other?

Do you actually feel the knocks?

I know its a bit strange but is the spare wheel not secured properly, this could account for the knocking sounds, and you can sometimes feel it a bit.

What's the car's mileage? By the sound of those Irish country roads, I would not be surprised if your rear shocks are simply too tired.

I had a rear damper with a leaking oil seal, it gave exactly those symptoms!

If you're on S-02s, it could be the cold snap.

They take ages to warm up.

lads ,

about 41 k miles
new re 50s
seems to be a little worse on passenger/ditch side
spare is tight

any other way of checking shocks other than old fashioned bounce test, seem fine with this method but i must admit its what i considered to.you normally get a good indication from the bounce test but not with this car maybe.both seem dry...

cheers

Get under the car and have a good look - see the FAQ for the spring spacers issue
