Thinking about getting a second car.

My other half MJ has just given up her company car (they wouldn't let her keep it after she resigned ) and I've been considering a beater of some description for a while.

So my current thinking is to get something fast (as always), but also very practical (i.e an estate).

So I have shortlisted the following estates:

Vectra GSi - of course.
Omega MV6
Volvo 850R or V70 T5 (depending on prices)

I know a lot (110k miles in 4 years) about the Vectra and Vauxhall servicing, but seeing as this will be an old second car I'm not to concerned about that.

Can anyone shed any light - based on ownership experiences - on the other two?

Anyone got any other ideas?

Scooby Wagon and Mitsu VR4 are out based on insurance and price second hand

Accord Aerodecks seem to be a bit old style for the money. i.e the other cars all have relatively recent revisions in the price range/age range I am looking at, but the Accord looks a dated even by comparison.

The Vectra will be good for 0-60 in ~7.5s and will do ~145mph on the Autoroute and has aircon, 6 cd changer, self leveling suspension, 17in rims, recaro seats etc, so no need for that talk Moff

I'd prefer an 850R I think.. but they are hard to come by..

However, found an nice ex-police car site with a lot of white estates on it - all with >200 bhp

I'm not working to any budget yet.. crazy as that might seem.

I'd like to spend as little as possible on the car to buy, not too bothered about mileages as it comes with the territory.

Running costs I'm not too concerned about as the annual mileage will be relatively low and if it becomes necessary to have such a car to run all the time I'll get one from my company car scheme instead.
