Default Secondary O2 sensor problem

Hello all! I did a brief search on the forum but couldn't find anything.

Anyway my check engine light has been on so I plugged the data logger reader thingy into it (1999 s2k) and this came up

So we took the old lambda probe out and half of it was missing. Bingo we thought. So I popped a new one in and the same code came straight back up. So we looked at the live data reading for the two lambda probes. First one is working fine but the second one is working intermittently, like for 1-2 seconds then nothing for 30 seconds to ten minutes.

Has anyone experienced anything similar or know what the cause might be?
Also will the first code cause the check engine light to remain on?

Regards, Edd

First thing to check would be whether it is plugged in properly and there is no shit in the connector, given how exposed it is on top of the gearbox.

After that, then maybe a faulty sensor, is it a Honda Part?

Yeah we checked the plug, cleaned all then crud out of it lol.

It was too late to get a new one, but I'll try that when I get home from work next week. It's not a Honda one but a Bosch one so I'd be surprised if it is broken from the box.

Cheers, Edd

Well, if it is not the sensor then the only other thing is the wiring or ECU, the sensor is much easier to troubleshoot...!

In what way do you mean not working, the rear sensor reading should flat line around 0.45 volts.

It should be reading rich and lean like the first? But not the same as there is a cat there.
It just flat lines randomly then starts reading rich and lean like it should briefly. And the fault code is still there.

Is there a fuse for the O2 sensor's heating circuit? Might be worth digging out the workshop manual and having a look.

We shoved the multimeter in, it's getting a current.
I'll have to try another one when I get back from work.

The car seems to be running better now that there is no secondary sensor plugged in, makes me feel a little better, it was running super rich before I took the old one out.

Once the cat's lit up then the rear sensor should flat line at about .45v and maybe fluctuate occasionally or if your stick the boot in, if it's flip flopping rich lean then there's something wrong up stream, that's not to say you still haven't got a duff sensor unusual but possible

Ok, I see what you mean, I wasn't sure what it was supposed to look like. This will just flat line anywhere randomly and not move regardless of what you do.
