Default Seized Brake Caliper Guide Pins

Basically, one of the brake caliper guide pins is jammed solid into the caliper mounting bracket. So, anyone got any tips for removing them?

Soak in WD 40 and leave for a while, or have you already tried that ?

I haven't seen Plus Gas for sale for ages.

It was far better than WD40 for releasing things.

But yeah, leave to soak for ages & carefully drift out with a centre punch.

next best though is Halfords penetrating oil. Much better at, err, penetrating than WD40 IME.

Steve after doing the "penetrating oil" procedure just put a 17mm spanner on the pin and gently move it back and forth until it free's its self, the pins are fairly robust, then work it out of the caliper mounting.

Becarefull of the rubber dust covers not to rip them.

Make sure that the pins and where they go are well cleaned of all debris/rust and well greased as this can be a common problem of the brakes sticking on.

Always clean & lubricate pins when i fit new pads.

Main dealers don't seem to like greasing things or putting anti-seize on parts! One reason to do it yourself

Cheers for the advice guys. Have already got copious amounts of penetrating oil on it. Will try again tomorrow, and maybe bath it in oil to see if that helps. It looks extremely rusty where the guide pin goes into the bracket, so I'm not sure whether the oil's even getting through. Suppose it serves me right leaving it to the dealers up till now. Ho hum.

PS, this was on the Civic at 106,000 miles. I'm hoping the S2000's will be in a better state.
