Default Seized bush hell - a whinge

Decided today to remove my passenger side lower arm as it has a seized bush.. tried everything (WD40, breaker bar, hammer etc but no) it would move a bit, but it was twisting the bush

so cut it off.. - hard but not that bad.. it is only one after all.. so ages and ages cutting and later off it came..

so i turned to the compliance bush (the bolt had already come out easy as pie - no worries)

The sleave (sp?) would turn almost 180 degrees but it was taking the bush with it.. the bush was screwed and the sleave locked solid.

so another half hour cutting.. then i had to cut the ARB link.. phew

the other side should be fine (but i'm nervous now)

front bush slips out a dream (wahey) but on inspection the compliance bush doesn't even hold the arm in the right place vertically - it's so forked that the rubber no longer joins the arm to the car.

so out comes the saw and off it comes..

so.. maybe 4 hours later its all off..

all the three geo's i've had done in the last year, the idiots have just been twisting the forked compliance bushes and not noticed. One even claimed they'd unseized the other bush as well, but ewas just twisting it! No wonder the car never felt quite right

Todays lesson - just because your car has had it's geometry done does not mean the bushes aren't fooked - it might just making it worse !

Feel better now

I have a MY99 JDM and will be doing the same soon, however i'm getting together every single suspension component for mine as i expect it all to be fooked.

Good to hear everyone's having the same fun.

I had 6 seized bushes, but well worth upgrading to polybushes as the car is better than new.

The horrible truth is though, even If you geo has been adjusted, it "DOES NOT" mean your bushes are not seized as some geo monkeys will simply just spin the bush around in its color, damaging the bush further and possibly causing poor handling an MOT failure, so please be careful who does your geo.

Well i've been prepared for the call that everything needed replacing/fixing, so i've decided to simply buy replacement parts for the lot so when it all comes off, the spangly new parts that go on are all set, waiting - every nut & bolt.

Hopefully should make the car feel perfect again.

That's definitely the easiest way to go about it. I've only done the back end at the moment, and have been waiting on Mugen compliance bushes to sort out the front. Everything on the front moves, so it should be a little more straight forward than the rear.

I've decided while it's all hanging off to put coilovers on too.. prob get those BC ones and see how they go.

C7JFW.. you are doing the right thing....I'm very glad i ordered the mugen compliance bushes a couple of months ago.. if i'd had to order them now the car would be on stands for months. fortunately powerflex bushes don't have to come from Japan.

and get yourself a reciprocating saw and about 100 blades
