Default Servicing

Hi guys

Just a quick question to see what people's thoughts are.

I bought an MY03 in 2004 with just over 10k on the clock. Since then I have done another 14k mostly in the dry and have had all bar the last service done at a Honda main dealer. All the services until now have just been minor ones due to the low mileage but am now beginning to wonder if there are any items which should be looked at due to the age of the car rather than the mileage?

Depends what you mean by minor services - I would hope that Honda would have done the brake fluid at some point in the 8 odd years !

If Honda's just followed the normal servicing schedule (which is what I assume) then every service interval has a mileage or age written next to it.

For example they would do the '80k or 8yr' service on it now rather than the '15k or 2yrs'

Have a look in your service book

Wasn't sure so looked at the service book last night. I remember them wanting to change soemthing a few years back but due to the low mileage since the previous service they didn't in the end. Not quite sure what this was though.

2005 - Oil & filter
2006 - Oil & filter
2007 - Oil & filter
2008 - Oil & filter, air filter, spark plugs, gearbox oil & brake fluid.
2009 - Oil & filter
2010 - Oil & filter
2011 - Oil & filter
2012 - Oil & filter

Would it be wise to get anything more than the standard oil & filter this time around?

Thanks

Personally I'd do all fluids, engine oil, gearbox oil, diff oil, brake fluid and coolant, they all degrade with age as well as mileage, maybe a pollen filter too as if its never been changed it will be black.

Blimey, sounds expensive (being as I know nothing about cars I'll have to get it done for me)

Until I joined this site I was happily paying out for minor services and tax and MOT's, etc. (not to mention the £40 per week depreciation for the last 8 1/2 years!) Now I keep seeing things I want to buy and finding out things I need to do!! Hey ho........
