Default Servicing in Devon/Cornwall

The MOT is due next week for the car, however before I get that taken care of, I'd like to get the 81K service done first.

So far I have contacted Rowes in Plymouth (£425), Speedwell in Paignton/Newton Abbot (£350) and also Hendy in Exeter (£223!!). At the price Hendy quoted I was eager to clarify what maintainance was conducted. The Girly said as it was a Major service everything such as valve clearances and fluid changes will be carried out however she was going to check 100% that was the case and then ring me back (still waiting).

I was just wondering if anyone had any first hand experience of any of these Dealerships' service departments and whether the prices quoted are reasonable. Are there any other Dealerships in the SW worth contacting?

I always service the Prelude myself, but I'd like to keep the FHSH going with the 'S'. All have also offered the free use of a courtesy car for the day as well.

Many thanks

i've used rowes in plymstock (near morrisons); they did my 1 & 2 yr (in sept '09) services. i've always found them friendly & the car never has any problems when it's handed back to me. they're free anough with a courtesy car too. they're not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. hope that helps. i'll keep my eye out for you.

I live in Plymouth and have also used Rowes for many years with my Type R Integra and S2000. However I have had the Integra handed back with oily hand marks on the cam cover and oil running onto the sills from where they oiled the hinge pins on the doors, sloppy if you ask me, as the car was absolutely spotless. I tried a few more times with the S but now use Speedwell in Paignton who gave me the best price and good service and neither Hendy or Rowes could beat them.

Good Luck.

Bloody hell, you don't hear anything from the Green Army, and like buses three appear in one thread!
Hi from an expat Plymouthian just up the road

PS - not really worth dealer maintaining a nine year old car at a dealer if you can DIY.
You won't really recover the difference at resale now, as the prices are collapsing anyhow.

My mate works for Hendy in Exeter and usually does most S2000's.

I don't trust my car with anyone else and he does a top job!

He won junior tech, diagnostic's and something else a couple of years ago.

There is a few monkey's that work there though!

My car's in for MOT tomorrow

Many thanks for the replies, I ended up ringing Hendy’s back and she had indeed mis-quoted me. The new price was £450.

I've booked in for Speedwells for next Friday (uber busy till then, I've even got to work tomorrow afternoon!) as they were the cheapest and also being in Paignton me and the GF can have a mooch round in the courtesy car and take in the scenery. Got to love the English Riviera.

I take onboard the point about the age of the car (it is however immaculate), but as it is my toy, its a large service and it doesn't get used that often I'd rather pay to have it serviced by Professionals rather than a Sailor (albeit Artificer) with a spanner (scary thought!).

It does mean my coilovers and Geo set-up will have to wait another month now though.
