Default Shock absorbers

Right so I'm in need of a rear shock absorber so obviously i need to buy a pair. The question is which ones would you recommend going OEM or aftermarket? Is there any aftermarket ones that are similar to OEM? Anyone had any problems with a certain brand?

Thanks,

Assuming that as you are thinking of OEM kit you're not after race car stiffness, I'd recommend Koni sports (yellow). They are similar to OEM in terms of damping but are adjustable. I had them on my last S and had no complaints whatsoever.

Cheers for the reply, yeah I'm only using the S for the road so I will look into getting some koni sports soon as they are considerably cheaper then OEM

Check your insurance first. I had to replace a rear shock recently as well and I was forced to stick with OEM because with aftermarket suspension my insurance would rocket up plus min excess would increase to 3K. That's nuts. I got some second hand ones from the same year.

Just curious: Is there a mandatory shock absorber declaration in the UK? Or is this a benefit of what seems like a highly invasive annual search of the car (MOT)?

No, but if you have an accident and it is discovered you have any modifications on the car that you haven't declared, they will void your insurance, meaning that you could end up personally footing the bill for both parties (doesn't bare thinking about if that requires a multi-thousand pound third party personal injury claim)....,,

Have anyone had trouble getting parts for their S2000? I'm fairly new to ownership (only a couple of weeks) and have ordered a brake caliper from Honda (4-5 weeks wait) and Koni shockers (6-8 weeks wait)

I see you have already ordered but thought I would share about the Spoon Fixed dampers. We have sold a few sets of these recently. Similar to the KONI but manufactured by the OEM manufacturer SHOWA, come with new top mounts (100 ish each from Honda) and dust sleeves.

We usually stock a couple of sets at a time so normally in stock.
