Default ShoooRn's Progress thread

Cheers for stepping into my ongoing progress thread.

I bought my S2K at the end of March 2016 from Leicester after much searching about and head scratching over whether I could afford owning one of my dream cars and whether it was worth selling my track car for.

In the end I wanted something that I could share my precious memories with the Girlfriend in now before the car became too much of a cult classic and was way out of my price range. I also wanted to experience the car whilst I was young (27) as I had promised myself a S2K or Exige by the age of 28.

When I stepped into the silverstone grey with red leather interior and black dash I instantly wanted this S2K. The dealer was difficult to budge on price (getting near april it was always going to be the case). After some negotiating I drove the car back, and what a drive it was. Smiling with a huge grin on your face is the only way to drive this thing.

DAY ONE:

Next day I had the car booked in for some Toyo T1Rs to be fitted at ATS euromaster Northants, after fitting a little old lady backed into the front bumper The damage was minimal but the paintwork was cracked. I got booked in at Three ways garage Northampton and he did a cracking job.

Since then I've had a few amazing drives in the S2K locally and will be heading to Cornwall with the missus at the end of the month.

WEEK 5

I'm doing a gearbox oil fluid change this week and I have a new set of OEM pads and discs to be fitted before Cornwall.

So far buying the car has been everything I wanted it to be and then some - I just am very much learning my limits in the car at present!

Nice car mate and it's always Good to see a local. I know these cars can perform as well as they look but all this testing the limits business catch even the best drivers out sooner or later. Just drive it and keep it on the black stuff.

WEEK 10

So after a good drive the other day I got back after my 30miles and could hear the car sounded a bit tappety and thought instantaneously that it could need the valves adjusting (I'd read alot on this before buying the car). To be honest the noise sounds like very early TCT wear.

As the engine was warm and as most people stated on S2Ki and other forums that the TCT was loudest when warm I put this down to the grade of oil (oil pressure). I am away next week in the S2K and a new TCT won't arrive until tuesday from H-TUNE the following week for replacement. The noise is not at all loud but enough to make me notice it and I only want the best for this car.

I am not 100% of the quality of oil used by the garage I bought the car from in March so as a matter of caution I will be changing the oil (despite it only doing 1000miles!) this weekend before the trip to castrol edge 5W 40. I will keep you informed if the noise goes.

I am also thinking of changing the gearbox oil as a matter of maintenance this weekend just so evertything is fresh for the trip.

I typically do 1000miles on my trips to cornwall so this will be my longest stint with the car non stop. I'll let you know my reaction on my return from my holiday!

Carbon S2K - cheers fella. Where abouts are you based? Yes learning the limits of the S2K needs to be treated with the upmost respect.

TCT is pretty obvious when you know the sound.

Very fast ticking and noticeably louder than the valve train, sounds like a ratchet being spun. early failure of mine showed itself when blipping the throttle to say 3k RPM, and when starting the car warm. the noise would last for a couple seconds then go away.

I got the ballade TCT... great fix

Yes I know what you mean it was fairly obvious for me too but only after some research... watching some vids did make me think mine was worse than it is however - I was mid panic thinking mine was very loud... on starting the car it was actually alright

I went for an OEM replacement. Touch wood it should last me. Especially if this one is the original on 85k!
