Default Should I

Hi

I am a newbe. I am also in a dilema. I have for the past 5 months kept putting off buying an S2k. Should I buy in the uk or import. I know the obvious reasons for importing but when they say uk spec is it actually uk spec. I have recently been onto jamjar imports and they say there is no difference. Apart from the alarm not being fitted as standard. So I say to myself what else is not standard.

Please Help

Welcome to the boards, importornot

You don't get locking wheel nuts and your warranty will be for 60000 miles not 90000. You don't get the Honda Assistance package either (ie AA membership). This is because all these are fitted or supplied by the UK dealer. You'll probably have to wait longer for the car as well.

My import will be in the country in 22 days

You can use an importer that will add the alarm and locking wheel nuts. I used Virgin Cars who also included 3 year AA assistance, as already stated though, the warranty is 3 year 60,000 not 90,000 miles (not a consideration for me) The car arrived ok but the service left me feeling like a number in the system so I couldn't recommend them. Also importers will give you a crappy part exchange value for you existing car (if they offer this service at all) so you really need to sell privately if you go that route.

Apart from the above the cars are identical, you register them with Honda UK via a dealer and the dealers will happily service them and perform any warranty work.

The advantages of buying from a dealer are that you will get an after sales service, (you will pay several thousand pounds for this privilege though), and come the time to trade in you will get a better price from a Honda dealer for an UK car as opposed to an EU import, they will punish you for not buying from them under the grounds that an EU import supposedly takes longer to sell, selling privately who knows what the situation is

I would have preferred to use a dealer but could not justify the several thousand pounds extra. I am happy with my import.

The GT model includes a hardtop + stand + cover, I believe this is a UK dealer only deal, which works out cheaper than buying a separate hardtop + cover + stand. This may also be a consideration.

there is no fire extinguisher in JDM models - actually the opposite, they give you are warning flare which you are meant to light and place behind your car when you are broken down. I know Belgium spec cars come with extinguisher as standard - probably other Euro's have same.
