How well do the soft tops cope in winter time, i.e. the frost and snow won't kill them?
And if a soft top is ripped, can they be repaired or how much for a replacement?
The soft top is made of vinyl, albeit designed to look like fabric. As a result, it gets a bit stiffer in winter so the general advice is to let the car warm up a bit before you try to drop it, particularly if you have a pre-MY02 with the plastic rear screen.

When stiff, it won't always lower to its normal position, but if you raise it slightly and lower it again, it will usually drop into position.

As for being repaired, it depends on the size and location of the rip. There have been issues with the roof mechanism causing wear holes in some roofs (do a search for more threads) but there is a workaround that sorts the problem.

Not sure about the cost of a replacement, but probably close to four figures.

So i had a shot of one and although the S2000 isn't as quick as my current car; the top down experience is pretty special.
I have been mulling it over for a while and i've decided to go for it. Just need to sell up and get one.

This isn't the place to ask i don't think but it'll save me starting a new thread:

"Isn't as quick as an EK9"? Are you sure.

I know the EK9 has a claimed 0-60mph time of 5.5 seconds, but an MY00 S2000 driven properly can't be far off. I bet between 60 and 120mph the S is a clear winner aswell?

Anyway good luck with the search, you've done the right thing.

The roof will be fine over winter as long as you look after it. A new one is about

Yeah it felt quicker to me and the guy who owned the s2000 lol. His one was dyno'd at 250hp but as someone said before; figures are pub talk. Its the experience the car gives that counts.

I think with, breathing and exhuast mods, the S2000 will feel totally different. Not necessarily faster but it terms of experience with the different noises etc I'll be onto a winner!

As long as the roof is waterproof i don't mind it being ripped/worn. It'll get replaced as funds permit.

Didn't realise the roof was vinyl, guess that means it won't need any special additives etc to keep it healthy.

& welcome.

I think you'll love it.

I came from lots of FWD cars to the S2000, and after almost 10 years, I still it.

It's the only car that I've had that isn't an A to B car, more like an A to B via C, D, E, F etc

You'll find that the short trip to get the milk/paper will take a couple of hours on a bright summer's day, and leave you grinning from ear to ear.

BTW : Don't believe everything they say about the colour combo, black on black is the best by far
